"A BRAVE NEW WORLD FOR CUB SCOUT PACK 254 IN 2011/2012"

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH WAS A GREAT DAY FOR CUB SCOUT PACK 254 AS WE HELD OUR ANNUAL PINEWOOD DERBY! KODY BARRINGER, JOSHUA STORIE AND JOHN BROWN FINISHED FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD AND THEY, ALONG WITH ANYONE WHO IS MEMBER OF PACK 254, CAN AGAIN EXPERIENCE THE EXCITEMENT OF RACING THEIR PINEWOOD DERBY CAR BY ENTERING THE KANNAPOLIS DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY THIS COMING SATURDAY AT THE CAROLINA MALL IN CONCORD. IF YOU DECIDE TO TRY YOUR CAR OUT AT THE DISTRICT EVENT, GOOD LUCK!

AS HAS BEEN THE CASE FOR MOST OF THE YEAR, PACK 254 CONTINUES TO BE ON THE MOVE WITH THE FOLLOWING UPCOMING EVENTS:

MARCH 5TH: PACK MEETING (POSTPONED!!!) REGULAR DEN MEETINGS!!

MARCH 10TH: CHARLOTTE CHECKERS HOCKEY GAME

APRIL 21ST: KANNAPOLIS INTIMIDATORS GAME

MAY 18TH-20TH: SPRING TRIP TO WASHINGTON, DC

WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF FUN TO HAVE BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR. I HOPE YOU WILL TAKE TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN AS MANY ACTIVITIES AS YOU CAN.

TIGER DEN SCHEDULE:

DEN LEADERS: TIGER CUB PARENTS All Tiger Cub Parents are asked to sign up to lead the Tiger Den in activities for at least two meetings during the year. Please contact Darrin Jordan at 704 239 8120 or djordan005@carolina.rr.com to sign up.

THE TIGER DEN WILL BEGIN REGULAR MEETINGS ON OCTOBER 3RD. ON THAT DATE, WE WILL HAVE AN IMPORTANT MEETING THAT WILL DESCRIBE THE TIGER PROGRAM HERE AT PACK 254. THERE ARE A FEW RULES THAT APPLY TO THE TIGER PROGRAM:

1. The Tiger Cub must have an adult stay and participate with him during all meetings.

2. The Tiger Cub's parent/adult partner must sign up to be responsible for leading the Tiger Den as the need arises. Obviously the more Tiger Cubs there are, the less your turn will come around. A list will be circulated each week until all spots are filled. You should schedule activity to last at least 45 minutes.

3. The Tiger Cub's parent/adult partner is responsible for reporting to the CubMaster when the Tiger Cub has completed Achievements/Electives. A spread sheet will be provided to report these activities.

"WEBELOS I" SCHEDULE

WEBELOS I LEADERS: Lisa and Eric Brown, Larry Haywood, Eric Purvis

Webelos Leaders held a meeting with parents of WEBELOS I on Monday, September 12th. If you missed the meeting, below is the topics that were discussed.

* Your Scout MUST have a book. The leaders will need to sign off on requirements this year. Parents will only complete FITNESS requirements and go over the Parent's Guide to How to Protect Your Child from Child Abuse located in the WEBELOS book.

* Please be on time- we start at 7:00 pm and dues are $1.00 per meeting.

* Please wear tennis shoes and bring a jacket if necessary.

* A tan scout shirt can be purchased at the Scout store for $35. A plaid neckerchief will also be needed if you purchase the tan shirt and the cost for that is extra.

* We have several activities planned for the year. A permission slip must be signed for each event or your scout cannot participate. The permission slip will be provided to you prior to the event.

CUB SCOUT POPCORN SALE BEGINS AT PACK 254

The 2011 Cub Scout Popcorn Sale begins Oct 3rd here at Pack 254 and continues until Nov 7th when all orders will be due. Every member of Pack 254 will receive their order forms on October 3rd and there is a list of great prizes for selling certain amounts of popcorn. This Sale is one of two fundraisers that Pack 254 participate in during the scout year and helps fund our program and pay for trips. Please contact family, friends and co-workers and let them know that your scout will be asking them to purchase popcorn for this great cause. I found that people I never ask come up to me after the sale wondering why they were never asked...so don't leave anyone out.

PACK 254 GENERAL INFORMATION

1. MEETING TIMES ARE MONDAYS FROM 7:00 PM TO 8:00 PM. SCOUTS ARE TO REPORT DIRECTLY TO THEIR DENS AND EACH MEETING ENDS WITH A "CLOSING". PARENTS MUST ATTEND THE CLOSING AT WHICH TIME IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE MADE. SCOUTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE THE SCOUT ROOM WITHOUT AN ADULT.

2. THE SCOUT ROOM WILL BE OPEN AT APPROXIMATELY 6:45 PM EACH MONDAY. SCOUTS ARE TO REPORT TO THEIR DENS WHEN THEY ARRIVE.

3. ATTENDANCE AT PACK FUNCTIONS ARE AN IMPORTANT AND NECESSARY PART OF CUB SCOUTS. ATTENDANCE IS TAKEN AT EACH EVENT. ABSENCES IN EXCESS OF 75% OF THE SCHEDULED EVENTS MAY CAUSE THE PACK TO DROP THE SCOUT FROM IT'S ROSTER WHEN RECHARTERING OCCURS IN DECEMBER.

4. DUES ARE $1.00 PER MEETING. PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR SCOUT TO EARN HIS $1.00 EACH WEEK BY DOING SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR YOU, HIS FAMILY OR FRIENDS.

5. YOUR SCOUT NEEDS A HANDBOOK FOR HIS PARTICULAR DEN AND A CLASS "A" UNIFORM. SEE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION. CLASS “A” UNIFORMS ARE WORN ON FIELD TRIPS AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS, LIKE PACK MEETINGS. HANDBOOKS, HOWEVER MUST BE BROUGHT TO EACH MEETING.

6. ATTENDANCE, DUES AND HANDBOOKS WILL BE CHECKED IN THE DENS.

7. THE FIRST ADVANCEMENT FOR EVERY NEW SCOUT IS TO EARN HIS BOBCAT BADGE. YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO REVIEW THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BOBCAT BADGE WITH YOUR SCOUT AND INFORM HIS DEN LEADER WHEN HE IS READY TO PASS THIS BADGE OFF.

8. "PACK MEETINGS" ARE MEETINGS WHERE YOUR SCOUT WILL RECIEVE AWARDS AND ADVANCEMENTS. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO SOME OF THE WORK AT HOME TO HELP HIM ACHIEVE THESE AWARDS AND TO TRY TO MAKE UP WORK HE MISSES WHEN HE IS ABSENT.
