PACK 254 VISITS THE KANNAPOLIS HISTORY MUSEUM WITH JUDGE CLARENCE HORTON

Judge Clarence Horton tells members of Pack 254 and their families about the
Kannapolis and Southern Rowan County
On April 8th, 2013, Pack 254 took a trip to the Kannapolis History Museum located inside A.L. Brown High School.  At the museum, the Scouts and their parents entertained with stories of how the area known today as the City of Kannapolis came to be inhabited and how this area grew from a farming community to a "company town" to what we now know as the City of Kannapolis.  Judge Clarence Horton and Norris Dearman, one of the "curators" of the museum, pointed out items located in the museum as they told Pack 254 what Kannapolis was like from the 1800's to today.  Some of the more interesting items in the museum included a desk that had once belonged to General Douglas McArthur and a machine that came from the old Cannon Mills that was one of the first computers (it took punch cards to program!).  There were also many pictures that showed the progression of the Town of Kannapolis to the City of Kannapolis and there were pictures from A. L. Brown High School in the 50's and 60's which included pictures of some of Pack 254's grandparents.  It was a great night to learn about the history of our community and to bring back memories.  Pack 254 would like to than Judge Horton and Mr. Dearman for taking time out of their schedules to share the stories and their time with us on a Monday night.
