For the third time in the last four years, Pack 254 celebrated Flag Day by hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony. With the help of Troop 254, the Honor Guard from the Rowan County Sheriff's Department and the Sheriff Kevin Auten, Pack 254 retired approximately 30 flags that were torn and stained. The Salisbury Post was present to report on this solemn ceremony and you can read more about it by clicking HERE. Below are a couple of pictures from the ceremony. I want to personally than Sheriff Auten, Lt. St. Clair, Sgt. Owens, Deputy Phillips and Sgt. Price from the Rowan County Sheriff's Department for their help. I also want to than members of the Pack 254 and Troop 254 from Bethpage United Methodist Church for coming out on their summer vacation and helping. Finally, thank you to Lt. Cecil L. Whitley, Ret. for his assistance in inspecting our flag and declaring it worthy for retirement.

"ONE SATURDAY PER MONTH EVENTS" ARE BACK FOR 2012/2013
Cub Scout Year 2012/2013 will re-introduce the "ONE SATURDAY PER MONTH" Program that was first introduced in 2010. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this Program at Pack 254, there is an at least one event planned each month that allows your Cub Scout to spend some time with his Den and Cub Scout Pack outside the normal den meeting times. Examples of "ONE SATURDAY PER MONTH" events that have been planned (some have not been finalized), include the Flag Day Celebration and Flag Retirement Ceremony on Thursday, June 14th at Bethpage UMC, a Pack campout in the mountains in July, a swimming party in August, a campout in September, a (possible) train ride and visit to the North Carolina State Fair in October, a trip to the AAF Tank Museum in Danville, Virginia in November, the annual Cookie Bake in December and the Pinewood Derby in February. Planning is still ongoing as to the specifics of the events already listed and additional events for January, March, April and May will be added soon. Don't forget, in March or April, we will be going on our annual Spring trip and the planning for that is underway. Please stay tune to the Pack website for the specifics and registration deadlines for these events. As always, if you have any questions, please contact Darrin Jordan, CubMaster.
PACK 254'S SPRING TRIP: WASHINGTON, D.C. 2012!
Members of Pack 254 invaded Washington, D.C. during the weekend of May 18th, 2012 for their Spring Trip! We stayed at Camp William B. Snyder in Haymarket, Virginia and after eating a great dinner on Friday night (Papa John's Pizza), we got up Saturday morning and made our way into our Nation's Capital City. When we arrived back at Camp Snyder on Saturday night, several things were apparent...we were all very tired...we were all hungry...most of us were sunburned...and we had all seen or experienced something in Washington, D.C. that someone else in the group had not seen or experienced. All in all, we were a small group, but we all had a great time and we all saw a lot of history! I would like to thank the families who took time out of their busy schedules to take their boys with us. Plans are already being made for our trip in 2013...Where will we go??? Enjoy some of the pictures I took---if you have pictures of your own, please email them to me.

PACK 254'S NIGHT OUT AT THE INTIMIDATOR'S
As part as our "One Saturday a Month" program, Pack 254 went to see the Kannapolis Intimidator's play on April 21st. We began the evening by tailgating with Chic-Fil-A nuggets, home-made sandwiches, and home-made cookies and ended the night with a spectacular fireworks display courtesy of the Kannapolis Intimidators! In between we watched a good baseball game and had some fun with the Intimidator's mascot. Be on the lookout for future opportunites to spend some time with the Cub Scouts of Pack 254--even chances during the Summer! Enjoy the pictures from the evening...

BEAR DEN OF PACK 254 DELIVERS THE GOODS!!!!
The Bear Den of Pack 254 delivered the goods on Monday, March 26th, 2012; that is they delivered the canned goods that they, along with the other Dens at Pack 254, collected during the annual canned food drive competition to Rowan Helping Ministries in Salisbury. The Bear Den delivered over 625 lbs of needed food to the Ministy. In addition to adding much needed food to the homeless and less fortunate of Rowan County, the Bear Den were hosted by Cam Campbell, Director of Resource Development at Rowan Helping Ministries, who gave the Den a tour of the facilities.
The Bear Den learned about all the things Rowan Helping Ministries does in addition to providing food, clothing and shelter to folks who have found themselves in a situation many of them never thought the would find themselves; homeless. There were alot of good questions and Cam was up to the task of providing answers. In the future, Pack 254 will look for other opportunities to provide help to the needy in our community as we try to make our community a better place to live. Thanks again Cam and Rowan Helping Ministries. If you would like more information about Rowan Helping Ministries click on the following website: http://www.rowanhelpingministries.org/

PACK 254 GOES TO SEE THE CHECKERS!!
On Saturday night (March 10th), members of Pack 254, along with their families, went to Time Warner Arena in Charlotte to watch the Charlotte Checkers Hockey team play. For some, it was the first time they have had an opportunity to see a live hockey game. For others, it was the first time they had ever seen the game of hockey played. And still for a few, it was chance to enjoy a game that we enjoy watching on a more frequent basis. No matter what the experience level was, everyone had a great time as we got together early for a "tailgate" feast which included Chic-Fil-A chicken nuggets and pizza provided by Nancy and Tommy Ratliff at Touchdown Pizza in Kannapolis.
Eventhough the Checkers lost the game 3-1, that didn't dampen the fun that we all had together. Remember that you have another opportunity to join us when we go to see the Kannapolis Intimidators play baseball on April 21st. Don't miss the fun when we again "tailgate" before the game.
