PACK 254 PARTICIPATES IN THE KANNAPOLIS CHRISTMAS PARADE

On December 8th, 2012, Pack 254 again participated in the Kannapolis Christmas Parade.  Approximately 20 Cub Scouts from Pack 254 waved at adoring fans as they rode either in the back of Matthew Trick's pickup truck or on the trailer that he pulled.  All Cub Scouts wore Santa hats as we listened to Christmas music to put everyone in the spirit of the season.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this a sucessful and fun time for Pack 254.

PACK 254'S ANNUAL PINEWOOD DERBY- FEBRUARY 23RD, 2013

On February 23rd, 2013, Pack 254 held its annual Pinewood Derby at Bethpage United Methodist Church.  Along with the Pinewood Derby, families and friends of the participants had a chance to support Boy Scout Troop 254's annual hotdog sale which is held each year in conjunction with the Pinewood Derby.  Pack 254 had a record number of cars to enter this year; 36 members of Pack 254 raced their home-made cars in the competition.  Each car had its own unique quality and design and everyone had a great time.

After the competition in the double elimination tournament was over, there was one car that had beat the field; Joshua Storie (Bear) finished in first place, Harrison Shepherd (Webelos I) finished in 2nd place and Jacob Haywood (Webelos II) finished 3rd in his last Pinewood Derby.  Also winning trophies were Best Design- Lachlan Jacklin (Tiger); Best Paint- Greyson Cress (Tiger); Most Original- Alex Furr (Tiger); and Best Built- Tanner Fowler (Webelos II).  Every Scout who participated exemplified the core value of sportsmanship and everyone followed the Cub Scout Motto- "Do Your Best"!  Great job to everyone who participated.

"I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD...": THE NORTH CAROLINA TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM

PACK 254 AT THE N.C. TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM
SPENCER, N.C.- OCT. 13TH, 2012
On Saturday, October 13th, Pack 254 spent the day at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina.  We had an opportunity to ride a real train around the museum grounds, we were able to learn about and ride the turntable at the roundhouse and we were able to walk around real trains and climb on and inside train cars!!  We saw that trains were used for things like delivering the U.S. mail, for transporting troops and they even could be outfitted to be mobile hospitals!  We also had a chance to see men work on repairing trains.  Finally, we were able to see some really old cars including Model T's.

There were 44 of us from Pack 254 which included 13 Scouts.  To end up a great day, we had a picnic lunch.  All in all, it was a great day, great experience and we had great weather.  We hope that you can join us on our next "One Saturday Per Month" event as we travel to the AAF Tank Museum in Danville, Virginia on November 17th.

IT'S UNIFORM NIGHT AT PACK 254

The first uniform night was a great sucess as the members of Pack 254 dressed out in their Class A uniforms.  Some have not had a chance to get Class A's and that's okay.  We had a tie; both the Webelos II and Bear Dens had 100% compliance !!!!!  Congratulations to these two dens!!! Our next "Uniform Night" will be Monday, November 3rd.

PACK 254 CAMPOUT-SEPTEMBER STYLE

Time for a good breakfast after a long night camping

Eighteen (18) members of Pack 254 spent the night of September 28th in tents along the Little Reed Island in the mountains of Virginia along with their parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters as Pack 254 held its September "One Saturday Per Month" event.  All total, there were approximately 52 people who braved some rain and cold weather to enjoy some mountain air as we cooked over the campfire, roasted marshmellows, made S'mores, played in a mountain stream, went hiking, (whew) and went on a night time hay(less) ride.  No one will forget the delicious peach cobbler that Ms. Dana prepared in the dutch oven (except for the ones who didn't eat any) and two of the three hay(less) night-time rides came across wildlife!  Word was the water was cold, but the boys (and girls) all had a great time as we ejoyed ourselves in the great outdoors.  Below are some pictures of our weekend.  If you didn't get to go, I hope you will take advantage of our other "One Saturday Per Month" events.
