Cub Scout Pack 254

"WHAT'S IN STORE FOR PACK 254?"

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Beginning September 8th, 2015, Pack 254 will begin meeting on TUESDAY NIGHTS instead of Mondays! This change will help integrate our older scouts with Troop 254 who meet on Tuesdays. Meetings will be from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

July 11th: Pack 254 will be going camping in Hillsville, Virginia. If you want more information, contact Darrin Jordan at djordan@windstream.net.

August: Back to Scouts Pool Party...more information to come

TIGER DEN SCHEDULE:

DEN LEADERS: TIGER CUB PARENTS

All Tiger Cub Parents are required to sign up to lead the Tiger Den in activities for at least two meetings during the year. Please contact Darrin Jordan at 704 239 8120 or djordan@windstream.net to sign up.

THE TIGER DEN WILL BEGIN REGULAR MEETINGS ON SEPTEMBER 22nd. ON THAT DATE, WE WILL HAVE AN IMPORTANT MEETING THAT WILL DESCRIBE THE TIGER PROGRAM HERE AT PACK 254.

THERE ARE A FEW RULES THAT APPLY TO THE TIGER PROGRAM AT PACK 254. PLEASE REVIEW THEM AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

1. The Tiger Cub must have an adult stay and participate with him during all meetings.

2. The Tiger Cub's parent/adult partner must sign up to be responsible for leading the Tiger Den as the need arises. Obviously the more Tiger Cubs there are, the less your turn will come around. A list will be circulated each week until all spots are filled. You should schedule activity to last at least 45 minutes.

3. The Tiger Cub's parent/adult partner is responsible for reporting to the CubMaster when the Tiger Cub has completed Achievements/Electives. A spread sheet will be provided to report these activities.

PACK 254 TIGER SCOUTS GO TO TIGER FIELD DAY AT CAMP BARNHARDT

Tiger Cubs from Pack 254 attended Tiger Field Day 2010 at Camp Barnhardt on October 10th. Reports are that they had a great time shooting BB guns and arrows at the archery range. They also had an opportunity to climb on a fire truck and they saw a real tiger cub!! If you didn't get a chance to go, ask a Tiger Cub that went. Above are some pictures from the day.

CUB SCOUT ADVANCEMENT DAY- NOV. 6TH!

Cub Scout Advancement Day at Camp Barnhardt will be held on Saturday, November 6th. This represents our November "One Saturday Per Month" and I would like to encourage your Scout to take this opportunity to spend the day at Camp Barnhardt working on achievements and electives for their respecitive ranks. Registration began October 5th and ends November 4th. Cost is $10.00 and a late fee applies after October 24th. Space is limited so register today. PACK 254 GOES TO THE CAROLINA RAPTOR CENTER

On September 25th, 14 Cub Scouts and approximately 20 parents and siblings from Pack 254 went to the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville to learn about raptors, which we found is another word for eagles, owls, hawks and other birds of prey. The Scouts went on a scavenger hunt while at the Center, looking for answers to questons about the different raptors and they received a patch from the Carolina Raptor Center for their participation. They also got an up close visit with a bald eagle and red tail hawk during a program put on by volunteers of the Center. Here are some pictures of the fun!

"BRING YOURSELF, YOUR HANDBOOK AND YOUR DUES" DOOR PRIZES!!!

On a trial basis, we will be giving away door prizes each week at the end of our Den Meetings. When your Scout signs in each week, he will be given a ticket for bringing "Yourself", a ticket for bringing his "Handbook" and a ticket for bringing his "Dues". To be eligible to win, he needs to put his name on the ticket or tickets and put it/them in the tin on the front desk. Door prizes will consist of items that I am able to acquire during the week and any items that you parents would like to donate. I hope that this will be something we can continue throughout the year. If you have any questions or suggestions, contact Darrin Jordan.

TIGER CUB FIELD DAY AT CAMP BARNHARDT- OCT 9TH

Tiger Cub Field Day 2010 at Camp John J. Barnhardt will be on October 9th. This is an opportunity for new Cub Scouts to see all the great things that Camp Barnhardt has to offer to Cub Scouts as well as Boy Scouts. It is also an opportunity for your Tiger Cub to complete some of his achievements and/or electives. CUB SCOUT POPCORN SALE BEGINS OCT. 1ST

Pack 254's Cub Scout Popcorn Sale begins October 1st. Members of Cub Scout Pack 254 will receive information and order forms on Monday, September 27th. If your Scout is absent that night, contact Darrin Jordan to make arrangements to get your Scout's popcorn packet. Pack 254 not only receives 33% of every item of popcorn sold, but our council, the Central NC Council for Boy Scouts of America, provides our Pack with advancement patches free of charge all year long for our participation.

This is the first of two fundraisers our Pack participates in each year. Please help us by selling Cub Scout popcorn.

CAROLINA RAPTOR CENTER- SEPT. 25TH

Pack 254 will be going to the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville on Saturday, Sept. 25th. We will be leaving Bethpage United Methodist Church at 12:00 pm and will eat a picnic lunch when we arrive at the Center. This will be our second "ONE SATURDAY PER MONTH". Come and join us for a relaxing day where we learn birds of prey (hawks, eagles, etc.). Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for scouts 5 and older. The Scout's siblings are invited also. We will be carpooling to Huntersville so please let me know if you will be coming or arrive at the church early on the 25th. If you have any questions, contact Darrin Jordan by email or call. I hope everyone will take this opportunity to get out and have fun with your Pack. If you would like more information about the Carolina Raptor Center, go to http://www.carolinaraptorcenter.org/. If they are available, each scout attending will receive a Carolina Raptor Center patch.

PACK 254 GENERAL INFORMATION

Below is a list of important information that you and your Scout need to know about the upcoming Scout year. Please read it over with your Scout.

Ø The Scout year will begin for the Wolf, Bear and Webelos Dens on Monday, September 8th. The Tiger Den (1st Graders) will begin Monday, September 22nd.

Ø Scouts must be escorted to their respective Dens each Scout night. This is in case you don’t receive information that the Den is meeting somewhere else on a night.

Ø Scouts must be picked up in the Scout room each night. There is too much traffic in the church parking lot to allow the boys to go up to the parking lot to find you.

Ø The Scouts are to go straight to their Dens when they arrive each week. A CLOSING will be held at approximately 7:50 pm. There will be a time during closing for you to receive important announcements and Parents must be present.

Ø Scouts need to bring their handbooks to each meeting. There is a certain amount of work that CAN and MUST be done at home. Please work with your Scout at home and make sure the Den Leader is aware of what you completed at home. YOUR SCOUT IS ASKED TO WEAR HIS CLASS A UNIFORM TO ALL SCOUT MEETINGS UNLESS HIS DEN LEADERS DIRECT OTHERWISE.

Ø Dues are $1.00 each week and should be paid when you initially check into your Den. It would be great if you would have your Scout do something to earn his $1.00 each week as we are trying to teach our Scouts to earn their way in life.

Ø Attendance and participation is an important and necessary part of Scouts. It is especially important this year as our SCOUTS EARN THEIR WAY TO PAY FOR THE SPRING TRIP.

Ø SPRING TRIP: WE WILL BE GOING TO WASHINGTON, DC THIS YEAR. YOUR SCOUT'S PARTICIPATION IN DEN MEETINGS AS WELL AS FUNDRAISERS IS AN IMPORTANT AND NECESSARY PART OF HELPING THE PACK FUND THIS TRIP.
